Welcome to second grade at Egremont School!We are so excited to begin this school year with your children and to partner with you as we support their academic growth, independence, and love of learning. Second grade is a wonderful year of growth, curiosity, and confidence-building, and we are looking forward to all that we will accomplish together.
Classroom Expectations Creating a safe, respectful, and positive learning environment is a top priority. Throughout the year, students will be expected to: . Treat classmates, teachers, and school staff with kindness and respect . Follow classroom and school rules and routines . Listen attentively and participate actively in lessons . Take responsibility for their work, materials, and behavior . Demonstrate honesty, effort, and perseverance, even when learning feels challenging We will regularly review expectations and practice problem-solving, self-regulation, and collaboration skills to help students thrive both academically and socially. Items and Topics We Will Review Throughout the Year During the first weeks of school and ongoing throughout the year, we will review and reinforce the following: . Daily classroom routines and procedures (morning arrival, transitions, dismissal, lining up, etc.) . School-wide expectations and safety procedures . Respectful communication and conflict resolution strategies . Growth mindset and positive learning habits . Reading expectations, including independent reading, reading stamina, and comprehension strategies . Writing expectations, including organization, handwriting, grammar, and editing . Math routines, problem-solving strategies, and mathematical thinking . Use and care of classroom materials and shared spaces . Homework expectations and organization strategies . Use of technology and digital citizenship (when applicable) . Social-emotional learning skills such as empathy, self-awareness, and teamwork . Assessment routines and how students can reflect on their own learning Communication between school and home is very important.
